Hinds' Feet: Walk Upon The High Places
Have you been navigating through rocky terrain lately? Perhaps this season feels like rocky ground beneath your feet: uncertain, uneven, and harder than you expected and you’re wondering why God would lead you this way.
Maybe you’re climbing the mountain toward the
dreams, goals, or aspirations God has placed in your heart, only to find the
path steeper than you imagined. Or your mountain may just be a major obstacle standing
in your way. The terrain feels rough, the turns feel uncertain, and the journey
looks nothing like what you envisioned. As the contemporary colloquialism goes,
“Life is lifing.” But know that just as ‘life is lifing’, GOD is Working!
The truth is, it’s the unexpected twists and
turns, the stony terrains, and the uncharted paths that keep life interesting
and keep us moving, even when we don’t yet comprehend the bigger picture. Psalm
46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble.” Jesus is our present help when we walk through the
unknown and our strength when we traverse stony ground. As the song goes, “Christ
is my firm foundation, the Rock on which I stand...”
It is in the rocky places that God strengthens
our footing and deepens our trust in Him. The good news is, wherever you are currently,
God has equipped you to continue your journey toward the destination He has set
for you. The Psalmist David declares in Psalm 18:33: “He makes my feet
like hinds’ feet, and sets me upon my high places.”
The
Bible describes Psalm 18 as “A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who
spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord
delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.”
If anyone knew about navigating rocky terrain, difficulties and hard seasons,
it’s David (one of my favourite persons in the bible).
David was anointed by God to be the next King
of Israel, but he did not become King immediately. Between his anointing and
the fulfilment of God’s calling, he had mountains to climb, rocky terrains to
traverse, and uncharted paths to navigate while fleeing from his enemies and
the hand of Saul (current King at the time). Yet in the midst of it all, David
knew that God was not only with him but also equipped him for what was ahead, allowing
him to emerge triumphantly.
“He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and sets me
upon my high places.”
The truth is: God is less interested in flattening our mountains and more
interested in forming and equipping our feet to climb them. Wherever you
are, whatever rocky or uncertain path you face, God has already equipped you to
reach the high places He has set for you (spiritually and physically).
What is Peculiar About a Hind’s Feet?
A hind is a female deer (particularly a red
deer) and is known for its peculiar ability to navigate rocky terrain.
Hind’s feet are designed for:
- Agility – the ability to move quickly and easily
- Sure-footedness – the ability to walk on rough ground
without slipping
- Strength – the power to rise above obstacles
- Endurance – the ability to withstand hardship or
adversity
God is saying: just like the hind’s feet, He has
equipped us with agility to leap over obstacles, sure-footedness to stand
steady, strength to rise above difficulties, and endurance to
keep moving forward until we reach the mountaintop/high places He has
prepared for us. God gives us speed in the battle, balance under
pressure and stability in the uncertain places.
You Are More Than Equipped!
A hind does not know the full strength of its
feet until it moves across rugged terrain. Likewise, we discover God’s
provision and power in our lives through the twists, the turns, the rocky
terrains, and obstacles before us.
Friends, you may be questioning the current path of your journey, but ask yourself: “What if God has already placed everything I need within me to successfully navigate and overcome this for His greater plan and purpose?”
Actually, let’s remove the “what if” and boldly
declare: “God, everything that I need to successfully navigate and overcome
this current trajectory you have already placed within me”
Interesting Fact:
A hind can leap up to 10 feet high and cover 25–30 feet in a single bound, navigating rugged terrain with remarkable balance and precision. Imagine what God can do with the “feet” He has placed within you!
God allows us to walk through difficult paths because it is in these very seasons that we uncover
the grit, determination, endurance and so much more He has deposited
within us and the grace He has supplied for the climb. And like David,
we come to this realization: “He makes my feet like hinds’ feet.”
Declaration:
I declare that I am more than equipped for
what’s in front of me. Lord, I will ascend the rocky paths You have set before
me with feet like hinds’ feet and I will reach the high places You have
destined for me. I will have speed in every battle, balance under pressure
and stability in the rocky and uncertain places. Your Grace is sufficient for
the climb, and I will step onto the mountaintop victoriously in Jesus name.
This is amazing! It's always a blessing to comprehend what the Lord is saying when he speaks to us. Love how you broke it down. God bless you girl! Keep blogging 🙌🏽🙌🏽
